Giving and Receiving
I am participating in the “Art of Compassion, 4th Annual Doctors without Borders Art Auction” in Half Moon Bay, CA Nov. 6, 7 and 13th. Details at http://www.facebook.com
This month I offer an inquiry around “giving and receiving”.
What is your experience of giving and receiving? Do you simply knock on the door, say Trick or Treat and get handed what you want? Do you need to work hard for anything you receive? Do you need to be grateful no matter what you are given? Do you need to give more than you receive? Does it need to always be an equal exchange? What ideas about yourself are supported by giving or not giving, by receiving or not receiving? When are you free to give and receive openly? What limits giving and receiving? What supports giving and receiving? What feelings, thoughts, body sensations are experienced with giving and receiving in different circumstances?
When looking up quotes about giving and receiving, I found this one inspiring. The Buddha said, “Consider the flame of a single lamp. Though a hundred thousand people come and light their own lamps from it so that they can cook their food and ward off the darkness, the first lamp remains the same as before. Blessings are like this, too.”
Art-Making Process
This month explore what giving and receiving means to you and what your experience of it is. Bring the exploration into your art-making process. Be curious and see what shows up.
My Art Work as Inspiration for Your Art Work
I share my artwork here to inspire you to create your artwork. It is through your art-making that you will discover more about who you are.
