This Month’s Inquiry
This month’s inquiry is "what happens when you bring the power of a creative process/practice into your life for one year?"
I am living life within "A Year to Live", a book by Stephen Levine. My year is complete on July 15th. Still over 180 days to live this life-dream-adventure-creative process. And I am enjoying it more and more each day <smile>.
When trying to decide what to write this month, I kept thinking about the new year and goals, intentions and resolutions. Then this afternoon the question came up "if this is the last inquiry I get to share with you, what would I say?" The answer was right there behind the question. Bring the power of a creative process/practice into your life for one year and see what happens to your experience.
Art-Making Inquiry
This month’s inquiry is "what happens when you bring the power of a creative process/practice into your life for one year?"
Start now, daily or weekly, to be creative for a few minutes and see what arises.
What to do with the time? Write, draw, dance, sing, collage, sculpt, sew, paint, the list is endless. Ask your soul what it longs for and try it out.
This creative time can become a practice for you. Something you do regularly. For some of you a weekly block of time might be the place to start. For others, you are ready to practice daily. Ask yourself what feels right for you now.
How to bring a new practice into your life? For some of you, structure will be supportive, time set aside in your schedule, a commitment to take a class or work together with a friend. For others, creating an art corner with supplies ready will be supportive. You will notice it when you do and sit down for a few minutes when you can with enough regularity to develop a practice.
The real gift to bring to the process of creating a practice for yourself is gentleness and compassion. You may not practice every day. You may find yourself facing confusion, boredom, overwhelm, or distractibility. Be gentle with yourself and have compassion for wherever you are and whatever is arising in your experience.
Whatever is arising is the wonderful material to explore further with your creative time. It is a process with no beginning, no end, no goal, no expectation – simply the intention to create and see what wants to come into the world through you. A practice of creativity. An expression of who you truly are.
Have a great month.
